What to know about Transit in Serbia

Belgrade's regular municipal buses, trams, trolleybuses and BG:Voz have been free for residents and visitors since January 1, 2025. You do not need a ticket, transport card, account or tap. Beograd Plus therefore no longer sells ordinary city tickets; its useful job is official vehicle positions, stops, notices and changes. The app has English in its store listing, but recent reviews report incomplete translation, device-compatibility failures, battery drain and inaccurate vehicle states. Pair it with Google Maps or Moovit for route planning and allow extra time. The free rule has important exceptions. The A1 airport minibus and E-numbered express minibuses charge a fare, while regular airport buses 72, 600 and 607 are free. Confirm the current stop because airport and city works can move it. Free Belgrade transport does not mean public transport throughout Serbia is free. Novi Sad still uses paid city fares, while Niš introduced free public transport in 2025; other cities have their own operators, ticket methods and rules. Do not reuse outdated blogs describing BusPlus or Beograd Plus ticket purchases. At night, verify the exact line and last departure rather than assuming daytime frequency. Large demonstrations, roadworks and events can cause diversions that reach apps late.

Pro tip: No ticket is needed on regular Belgrade services. Use the app for live vehicles, but cross-check the route and allow for missing or inaccurate positions.
