What to know before you go to Ukraine

Missile and drone strikes can affect any region, commercial flights do not operate, consular help may be severely limited and ordinary insurance may be invalid. If you travel despite that advice, identify a verified shelter before arrival, install Повітряна тривога, obey every siren and check the local curfew daily. An available taxi does not give you permission to move during curfew. Expect rail, power, mobile, water and card-payment disruption; carry offline documents, two physical cards, some hryvnia, water, medication and a charged power bank.

Stay on verified routes because mines and unexploded weapons remain a hazard, and never photograph military sites, checkpoints, air defences or strike locations. Call 112 from a mobile for general emergencies, 101 for fire, 102 for police and 103 for an ambulance.

View Ride Hailing guide→
Uklon app icon

UklonEssential

Ukraine's leading local ride app, with the broadest country-specific service and cash or card payment.

Pro tip: A foreign card may fail even after registration. Keep hryvnia cash and Bolt or Uber as backups, and never assume a visible car means curfew travel is legal.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
Bolt app icon

BoltEssential

Broadly available ride app with an English interface, upfront quotes and foreign-friendly card support.

Pro tip: Compare its live supply with Uklon. Confirm the plate and driver, keep payment in the app, and follow the local curfew even if Bolt accepts a request.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
Uber app icon

Uber

Useful international backup currently listed in Kyiv and 17 other Ukrainian cities.

Pro tip: Coverage on a city page does not guarantee nearby drivers. Compare the live wait and fare, and never ask a driver to ignore an alert or curfew restriction.

Food Delivery3 apps · 2 essential

View Food Delivery guide→
Bolt Food app icon

Bolt FoodEssential

Restaurant and grocery delivery in a smaller set of major Ukrainian cities, with pickup and card payment.

Pro tip: Ride coverage does not equal food coverage. Check your address, every fee and the live delivery estimate before choosing it over Glovo.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
Glovo app icon

GlovoEssential

The broadest current restaurant and shop delivery marketplace across Ukrainian cities and suburbs.

Pro tip: Set the exact address first, compare the complete checkout total and order before alerts or curfew can interrupt courier supply.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
LOKO app icon

LOKO

Ukrainian service for restaurant meals, Silpo groceries and other everyday deliveries in many cities.

Pro tip: Use it when Glovo or Bolt Food has weak choice, especially for a mixed meal and grocery basket. Coverage and inventory are address-specific.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗

Messaging2 apps

View Messaging guide→
Viber app icon

Viber

Common personal and group messenger in Ukraine, useful when a specific host, driver or contact requests it.

Pro tip: Do not install it merely because it is popular. Use the booking channel first, verify unfamiliar contacts and never send an emergency request only by chat.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
Telegram app icon

Telegram

Useful for verified city, transport and institutional channels, as well as local contacts who prefer it.

Pro tip: Follow only channels linked by the responsible authority. Telegram is context, not an all-clear, so obey sirens and the official Air Alert app first.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗

Navigation2 apps · 1 essential

View Navigation guide→
Google Maps app icon

Google MapsEssential

Best general option for Ukrainian addresses, walking, business listings and an initial route check.

Pro tip: Download the area and save Cyrillic addresses, but follow closures and authorities. A suggested route is not proof that a road, path or shelter is safe.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
Organic Maps app icon

Organic Maps

Offline OpenStreetMap-based maps and routing that remain available during network or power disruption.

Pro tip: Download every region before departure. Offline data can be stale and does not show current military controls, damage, mines or whether a route is open.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗

Transit2 apps · 1 essential

View Transit guide→
Kyiv Digital app icon

Kyiv DigitalEssential

Official English-capable Kyiv app for transport tickets, live information, alerts and the city's shelter map.

Pro tip: Register with a supported foreign number, download the shelter map and validate every QR ticket. Keep Air Alert as a separate warning source.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
EasyWay app icon

EasyWay

English-capable route planner for many Ukrainian cities, with offline data and selected live vehicle feeds.

Pro tip: Use it for routes, not as a universal ticket. Live positions can be limited for security reasons, so confirm a critical trip with the local operator.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗

Language1 app · 1 essential

View Language guide→
Google Translate app icon

Google TranslateEssential

Offline Ukrainian text, camera and conversation support for signs, menus, addresses and basic communication.

Pro tip: Download Ukrainian before arrival and keep original Cyrillic names. Use a human-checked card or interpreter for medical, allergy, legal or emergency details.

Intercity Transport3 apps · 1 essential

View Intercity Transport guide→
Ukrzaliznytsia app icon

UkrzaliznytsiaEssential

Official Ukrainian Railways app for long-distance, international, suburban and selected urban rail tickets.

Pro tip: For some international trains, verify the app account with your passport up to 12 hours before sales open. Match the ticket name exactly to the ID.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
INFOBUS app icon

INFOBUS

Multilingual search and booking marketplace for domestic and international buses serving Ukraine.

Pro tip: Verify the actual carrier, boarding point, baggage and refund rules. Leave a large border buffer because a marketplace cannot protect a tight connection.

App StorePlay StoreWebsite↗
FlixBus app icon

FlixBus

Large international coach network linking many Ukrainian cities, with limited domestic-only service as of 2026.

Pro tip: Check whether FlixBus is the operator or sales brand, confirm the exact stop and allow substantial time for border procedures and wartime disruption.

Utilities1 app · 1 essential

Air Alert app icon

Air AlertEssential

Official civil-defence alert app for selected Ukrainian regions and communities, with no registration required.

Pro tip: Enable critical notifications, select the exact locality and test the sound. The app is not a shelter map and cannot replace sirens, authorities or a charged backup plan.
