A visitor does not need to buy a card or create a SimplyGo account: tap an eligible foreign contactless American Express, Mastercard or Visa directly at the gate or bus reader. Foreign Mastercard and Visa cards incur a S$0.60 administration fee per day of use. Always tap in and out with the same physical card or the same phone or watch, remove it from the wallet to prevent card clash, and use one payment device per passenger. The physical card and its mobile-wallet version are different tokens.
SimplyGo is optional. Full registration requires a Singapore mobile number, but Guest Mode provides a fare calculator, journey planner, card scan, locations and travel guide. MyTransport.SG is the official source for nearby bus arrivals, rail and road alerts, station information and crowding. Google Maps or Citymapper usually gives a clearer end-to-end route, so use the official app as a live-status companion rather than the only planner.
A July 2026 bus-arrival outage showed that any feed can fail; check station displays, bus-stop displays or a second app when a prediction looks implausible. A S$10 SimplyGo EZ-Link card includes S$5 stored value and a non-refundable S$5 card cost. The Singapore Tourist Pass currently costs S$17 for one day, S$24 for two, S$29 for three, S$37 for four or S$45 for five days, and excludes premium services. Compare that fixed price with ordinary distance fares before buying.
Trains do not run all night, and large events or maintenance can change service, so check official alerts and keep a licensed taxi or ride-hail fallback.
