Mobile payments and digital wallets, curated for travelers visiting Thailand.
Cards and Thai baht remain the simplest payment combination for most visitors, but Thailand now has one legitimate tourist-specific QR option. Ordinary PromptPay is linked to participating bank accounts, while cross-border QR access depends on the traveler's home country, bank and supported linkage. TAGTHAi Easy Pay is backed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and KBank. A foreign visitor aged 20 or over applies in person with a passport at a KBank foreign-exchange booth, exchanges supported foreign-currency cash into the KBank Tourist Wallet, and links it to TAGTHAi for Thai QR payments. It cannot be funded directly with Thai baht, a foreign card or a normal bank transfer. Current KBank materials say existing PAY&TOUR wallets must be upgraded at an FX booth by September 30, 2026. The app is useful for a longer cash-light trip or repeated QR-only purchases, but its current 2.3-star Play Store rating includes reports of slow screens, blurry QR scanning and false device-security errors. Keep the balance modest, check the exchange rate, understand the refund process and retain cash because the app, a personal QR or a merchant connection can fail. TrueMoney requires foreign-customer identity, visa and residence information and is not a dependable short-stay recommendation. Moreta's Thailand QR service has been paused for most nationalities since June 29, 2026, so it is not recommended. International cards work widely at hotels, chains, malls and larger businesses, while cash still matters at markets, small restaurants, taxis, ferries and rural shops. Carry two physical cards, use bank-operated ATMs, review the displayed fee and normally decline conversion to a home currency. Never scan a QR pasted over another code or transfer money after payment details change only in chat.
