Intercity Transport Apps in Bulgaria

Bulgaria's intercity system is split between Bulgarian State Railways, many bus operators and local stations. Obilet is the only app worth listing as a general visitor option. It currently sells many domestic bus journeys and shows several operators on major routes, but it is an aggregator, not a complete national timetable. Search the exact date, compare the operator and station, and confirm whether the ticket can stay on the phone or must be printed. BusExpress is another useful website, but its iOS app has not received a substantive update since 2017 and current reviews report failures, so use the website rather than installing it. For trains, use the official BDZ ticket site at tickets.bdz.bg. As of August 2026, BDZ does not have a current official passenger app for ticket purchase. Procurement documents describe one as a future service, while several store apps using BDZ data are independent schedule tools. Do not mistake them for the railway. Save the train PDF, coach and seat details offline and check the live station board because engineering work can alter a trip. Reserve popular summer and sleeper services early. Bus information is less centralized, and some regional journeys are sold only by the operator or station. Confirm the departure city, exact terminal, platform or roadside stop and reporting time. Similar names can refer to different Sofia or Plovdiv stations. Buy through the official operator, BDZ, Obilet, BusExpress or a station office, not an unsolicited link. Urban transit apps do not cover these journeys.
