VÉSZ is Hungary's official emergency-notification app. It can send location or area-based disaster-management messages about fires, accidents, severe weather, power failures and other incidents. It is optional for a normal city break, but more useful for a road trip, festival, Lake Balaton visit or outdoor itinerary. The app needs active mobile data, Android requires Google registration, and recent user reviews report notification and settings problems. Treat it as an additional alert channel, not a replacement for 112, HungaroMet warnings, local authorities or direct observation. Configure only the destination area and useful severity levels, confirm that notifications are allowed and check whether English content is displayed on the device. For ordinary forecasts, a familiar weather app plus official HungaroMet warnings is simpler than installing the low-rated Meteora app. Carry the original passport because police can require original identification, keep the insurer's assistance number offline and save the accommodation address. Pickpocketing is concentrated around crowded transport, stations, markets and tourist zones. Watch luggage on international trains and keep drinks in sight in nightlife venues. Move away from demonstrations and follow local instructions during severe weather or major incidents.
