Use the local operator's current rules. In Bucharest, Info Transport Bucharest is the official STB planner for buses, trams and trolleybuses, showing lines, nearby stops, service notices and live STB vehicle positions. It includes the metro in route planning, but Metrorex arrival times are estimates rather than live train positions. The app requires a working internet connection.
It points users to ticket channels rather than holding every ticket itself. For ordinary Bucharest travel, a contactless Visa or Mastercard can be tapped at STB validators, and international Visa or Mastercard cards can be tapped at Metrorex gates. Keep using the same physical card or device so inspections and fare logic can match it. Buy or tap before travel as the local rule requires and retain the active ticket screen or payment card for inspection.
24pay sells tickets without a transport card in Bucharest and many other cities. Its official service list currently names 23 cities, but ticket activation differs by operator and the service has had temporary 2026 outages in Ploiești, Iași and Cluj. Check that your city and ticket are actually visible before boarding, read the local validity instructions and keep a backup such as a contactless validator, ticket machine or sales point. A ticket bought after an inspector appears is too late.
In Bucharest, the same app ticket cannot be transferred to another phone. City systems elsewhere, including Cluj-Napoca, Brașov, Timișoara and Iași, have their own fares and validation rules, so never copy a Bucharest workflow blindly.
