Kyiv Digital is the essential Kyiv-specific tool. Its English interface accepts non-Ukrainian phone numbers except Russian ones and includes QR tickets, travel-card functions, routes, arrival information, a metro map, curfew reminders and an official shelter map. A Kyiv QR ticket must be scanned at the metro gate or vehicle validator; purchase alone is not proof of a valid journey. Download the shelter map and allow notifications, but keep the nationwide Повітряна тривога app because app crashes, battery failure or a missed permission can silence any single alert source.
EasyWay is the best cross-city planning backup. Its current store listings cover public-transport routes in 73 Ukrainian cities, provide an English interface and offer some offline data, while real-time vehicle positions are available only where security rules and local feeds allow. Its own website has inconsistent older city counts, so judge the selected city's live feed rather than a headline number. EasyWay is principally a planner, not a universal ticket wallet.
Outside Kyiv, identify the actual municipal operator, accepted ticket media and validation rule before boarding. Cash, local transport cards and contactless bank cards vary by city and vehicle. Air alerts can close stations, stop surface services or alter shelter access, and operating rules can change quickly. For a critical rail or border connection, check the official operator shortly before leaving, allow substantial extra time and keep enough battery to display a ticket or call for help.
