Uber's Poland licensing explanation says platform intermediaries needed a licence from 1 October 2020. From 1 January 2021, drivers also needed taxi licences, while vehicles needed city taxi markings and a roof lamp. The app can calculate and settle the fare, but the underlying trip remains regulated taxi carriage.51
A further rule took effect on 17 June 2024 requiring app taxi drivers to hold a Polish driving licence. That does not make every ride risk-free, but it corrects the idea that Bolt or Uber is an informal private-car network. If the assigned vehicle lacks the expected identification or does not match the app, do not board.2
Bolt publishes the broadest easily checked directory, with dozens of markets across Poland. Uber remains the familiar second quote in the largest cities and many regional centres. Neither is permanently cheaper. Compare the final vehicle class, pickup time and estimated amount at the moment you need the car.45

UK travel advice warns that unofficial taxis can overcharge and have been connected with assaults. Recent Warsaw and Kraków reports also describe excessive walk-up bills. These reports do not set a normal fare; they support a safer process. Use a recorded booking or official marked rank, establish whether the fare is fixed or metered and keep the receipt.38
Match the driver, registration and vehicle model before entering, then wear the seat belt and keep the app trip active. Decline a substitute car or a request to cancel and continue privately. If the destination changes, edit it in the app so the route and amount remain attached to the support record.13
