Poland has excellent public transport, but one app doesn't cover every city and train. Use Jakdojade for local buses, trams and metros, then use KOLEO or the national rail planner for trains. The important skill is knowing when a mobile ticket becomes valid.
Install Jakdojade for urban journeys and KOLEO for most train searches and tickets. Before boarding local transport, read the activation instruction shown for that city: some tickets start at purchase, while others need a QR scan or vehicle number. For a complicated rail connection, compare KOLEO with the official Passenger Portal and check the named operator before paying.

As of August 2026, Jakdojade says its planner covers more than 130 Polish cities. It combines timetables, live vehicle positions where the local feed supports them and mobile ticket sales for participating authorities. That makes it the best first screen in Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Poznań and many smaller cities, but it is not a universal national fare account.3
For trains, open KOLEO. Its current carrier list spans PKP Intercity, POLREGIO and many regional railways. The official Passenger Portal says it presents the complete timetable from all Polish passenger operators, plus live delays, disruptions and station information. Search both when a connection involves more than one operator or a tight transfer.657
Jakdojade's guidance separates cities where tickets normally activate at purchase from Warsaw and Łódź. In those two cities, a ticket bought ahead must be activated by scanning a vehicle QR code after boarding or a code before entering the metro. The app displays the applicable process. Complete it immediately and keep the valid ticket visible on the same phone.4
Kraków provides a useful example of why local rules matter. Its transport authority requires a mobile ticket to be bought immediately after boarding and linked to the vehicle by entering its number or scanning the QR code. Mobile sales can be blocked during an inspection. Current standard options include 15, 30, 60 and 90-minute tickets plus longer products, so buy for the whole planned journey rather than the first vehicle only.12
Polish rail is a network of national and regional operators, not one uniform product. KOLEO can sell tickets for a broad current list, but the itinerary still identifies the operator, train and fare conditions. Check whether the ticket is tied to that departure, whether a seat is included and whether every segment appears before you pay.65
Use Passenger Portal shortly before departure for the platform, delay and any replacement service. Its station pages also show facilities and accessibility information. If a connection is critical, save the itinerary and ticket offline, then follow station displays and announcements because a cached plan cannot reflect a late platform change.7
Jakdojade ticket payment can use BLIK or an in-app wallet, and the wallet can be funded by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Its current help page says cards issued outside the European Economic Area incur a 3% top-up fee with a PLN 1 minimum. That is a reason to keep a second card or use an official machine, not a reason to delay activation after boarding.4
Reduced fares, zones, airport routes, bicycles and luggage are governed locally or by the rail operator. Buy a discount only when you can produce the required proof. Keep the phone charged, leave the app open for inspection and retain the original payment card when a machine or contactless product links the ticket to it.26
If a transport app fails, use an official ticket machine, station counter or local operator sales point before boarding. Photograph or save the exact route, train number and platform separately. On a bus or tram, do not assume the driver sells tickets; the local authority's posted instructions decide the valid fallback.17
There is no single winner. Split the journey into its city-network and rail legs, then use the dedicated planner or seller for each named operator.
