It is not the ticket authority, so use the urban operator or intercity app for fares, service changes, platform details and refund rules. Download the areas you need before arrival, but Google states that offline maps do not provide public-transport, walking or cycling directions. Save critical routes, station names and the accommodation entrance separately. Historic centers in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra and smaller hill towns include steep lanes, stairs, cobbles, funiculars and streets that are closed or unsuitable for cars.
A route labeled short may be difficult with luggage, a wheelchair or a stroller. Review elevation and street imagery, and ask the accommodation about a step-free or vehicle-accessible entrance. In Lisbon and Porto, put the ride-hailing pin on the road where a car can legally stop, not simply on the building marker. On Madeira and the Azores, download a wide area before leaving towns because mountain roads, tunnels and remote trailheads can lose coverage.
A map route is not permission to enter a closed road, trail or protected area. Use current regional authority notices for hiking, wildfire, weather and road restrictions. When driving, expect toll roads and confirm the rental company's toll-payment method before departure. Do not interact with a handheld phone while driving.
Park only where signage permits, and do not assume a map's old parking or access information overrides posted signs.
