What to know about Ride Hailing in Portugal

Uber and Bolt are the two apps a visitor is most likely to need. No current audited trip-share figure establishes an overwhelming national leader, but both have dense supply in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve. Bolt is usually the cheaper of the two and a May 2026 comparison found typical quotes about 10 to 25 percent below Uber, although surge pricing can reverse that result. Uber publishes service in Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Braga, Coimbra and Funchal, while Bolt also covers Aveiro, Barcelos, Guimarães, Leiria, Setúbal, Sintra, Viseu and other cities. IzzyMove is a useful licensed-taxi backup in Lisbon and several regional markets. Cabify is not an alternative because it ended Portuguese operations on November 30, 2019. Foreign mobile numbers work with Uber and Bolt, neither requires Portuguese ID or a local bank account, and both have English interfaces. International Visa and Mastercard cards normally work, as do Apple Pay or Google Pay where offered. Cash availability depends on the product shown in the app. Airport pickup zones can be restricted, so follow the terminal pin rather than accepting an unsolicited driver. Published Uber rates for Porto, Coimbra and Braga included a €4.70 minimum as of July 2026. Lisbon airport to central Lisbon commonly costs about €8 to €15 before surge as of mid-2026. IzzyMove can dispatch a metered taxi and may be more predictable when TVDE prices surge.

Pro tip: Use it when Uber and Bolt surge. A licensed taxi can be cheaper on a short central trip because its fare follows the regulated meter.
