What to know about Intercity Transport in Slovenia

No single app handles all Slovenian intercity planning, tickets and live operations. Grem z vlakom is the official Slovenian Railways app and the best digital ticket tool for domestic trains. It also shows timetables, delays, obstacles and replacement buses. A mobile ticket remains under My Tickets and its AZTEC code must be readable for inspection. Check the exact train and disruptions before purchase because ordinary app and web tickets are generally non-refundable. Recent Android users report compatibility problems, so keep the SŽ website, ticket office and permitted on-board purchase as backups. If the departure station ticket office is open and you board without a ticket, an on-board surcharge may apply. Pelji.se is Arriva's new official planner for routes, transfers, timetables and available live bus positions. It does not sell a ticket. Intercity bus payment remains fragmented. Arriva says its Ljubljana Airport route currently accepts contactless cards or cash during a pilot, while other ordinary Arriva routes are cash-only on board. Nomago says single IJPP tickets without an IJPP card must be bought from the driver; online IJPP products require a physical card that takes days to deliver. Carry smaller euro notes and confirm the exact operator. Ljubljana's rail and bus station construction is causing temporary access, platform and queue problems in 2026. Check the operator on the day of travel, follow current signage and arrive early, especially for Bled, the airport or an international connection. Slomet can help compare the fragmented timetable data, but only the operating company can confirm a disruption or ticket rule.
