Intercity Transport Apps in Taiwan

Taiwan Railway and Taiwan High Speed Rail are separate systems with separate apps. Taiwan Railway serves the conventional network around the island, including the east coast and many smaller destinations. Its official Taiwan Railway e-booking app provides English timetables, reservations, payment and mobile tickets. A foreign passenger can book without membership using a passport, which is important because account registration can reject foreign identity numbers. The app's English can be awkward and its mobile ticket must be opened in the official app. A screenshot is invalid, and a dead or unusable phone can trigger lost-ticket procedures. Keep the reservation code and use a station counter, machine or official website if the app fails. High Speed Rail runs on the western corridor and uses T Express for QR mobile tickets. The app has English, but recent overseas users still report card-payment and ticket-sharing failures, so the official website, counter or convenience-store collection remains a necessary fallback. HSR stations can be outside the city center and may not be the same place as the similarly named Taiwan Railway station. Reserve popular east-coast and holiday trains early. Do not assume an EasyCard grants a reserved seat or is valid on every train type. Since April 1, 2026, Taiwan PASS has separate HSR and Taiwan Railway editions, with the HSR edition reserved for international visitors. Compare it with individual fares before buying.
