English is common in major hotels and tourism businesses but should not be assumed outside those settings. Google Translate is the simplest broad recommendation. Download Turkish and the traveler's preferred language before departure, test offline text and camera translation, and save phrases for the accommodation address, taximeter, agreed price, food allergy, medication, police, ambulance, fire, and insurer. Turkish uses a Latin alphabet with distinct letters, so copying the complete written address is more reliable than approximating a place name aloud.

Speech recognition can mishear names, rapid conversation, or background noise. Show written text and confirm the meaning rather than repeatedly speaking an uncertain translation. Save the address in Turkish and keep a nearby landmark. A machine translation should never be the sole basis for medical consent, a police statement, immigration questions, a serious allergy, a contract, or a disputed payment.

Ask the accommodation, insurer, airline, hospital, embassy or consulate, or an appropriate authority for a qualified interpreter in a high-stakes situation. Carry a written medical summary and medication list. Keep critical phrases on paper because a phone can be lost, discharged, confiscated, or offline. A specialized phrasebook app adds less value than one tested offline Turkish pack, careful written confirmation, and access to a human interpreter when accuracy matters.
